Artist Biography - Eliza

Full Version

Striking a balance between soulful psychedelia and dreamy euphoria, Eliza (she/they) is a DJ from Amsterdam rooted firmly in the politics of house music. Fusing stripped back old school house classics with hypnotic grooves, Eliza’s worlds are layered - weaving between potencies of smooth elegance, deep introspection, and bold sex appeal. Inspired by legends like Ron Trent, Larry Heard, and Theo Parrish, Eliza channels a historical undercurrent within her sets whilst layering contemporary progression to bridge the roots of knowledge with forward-thinking sound design. Her sets carve a narrative covering the spectrum of the human condition: lust, romance, heartbreak, healing, joy, transcendence, connection.

Eliza built up a sonic archive long before she became a DJ, which has been influenced growing up in the rave scene of Amsterdam, paired with her inherent fascination in the history of deep and soulful electronic music from black and queer transatlantic origins - notably house, jazz, R&B, street soul, dub and reggae which she likes to pay her respects to. She is not afraid to acknowledge the darker undertones that are at play with the sound’s lineage, whilst maintaining a mood that omits love and light. She builds on the different avenues in which resistance can be portrayed - both as activism and as spiritual healing, creating space for both to co-exist symbiotically. The sonic output is something that can be raw with an attitude, but also tender and loving.

Inspired by the cultural lineage of resistance on dancefloors, Eliza views the dancefloor as an innate political place to escape the power dynamics of daily life, a place where you can either lose yourself or find your way back in. In her own words: “The dance floor to me is about resistance, defiance, and empowerment, whilst acknowledging equity”.

Eliza is a resident on Radio Radio FM with her show Midnight Lovers, also a club event, that emphasizes connection through sensuality and spirituality - allowing the space for femme, queer, and neurodivergent minds to explore, play, and sink into their own rhythmic frequency and to enter a state of groundedness. Midnight Lovers has welcomed DJ Westfa, Dee Diggs, Vuur, Adiana Lucid & Noveva through its doors. Eliza is a dynamic presence across Dutch dancefloors, including Radio Radio, Doka, Phono Lake, Tillatec, and IsBurning. She has played alongside notable names in the community, including Stella Zekri, Dee Diggs, Musclecars, Antonio Occasio, Marcellus Pitman, Kyle Hall, and Rob Manga.
