Biodegradable Soundsystem
Profile

El Bickers is a UK-born, Amsterdam-based music journalist, writer, researcher, and DJ whose work bridges deep archival research with the raw energy of the dance floor. Drawing on an obsession with old-school vinyl and decades of underground music history, they weave narratives that connect past countercultures to today’s electronic landscapes.

Their writing has appeared on platforms including Minimal Collective (NL), Loud & Quiet Magazine (UK), and Threads Radio (UK), with collaborations spanning Dekmantel, Kantarion, and other leading cultural organisations. From in-depth features on sound system culture to forward-looking essays on audiovisual innovation, El's work reflects a meticulous yet rebellious approach to storytelling.

Specialising in 90s rave countercultural history, they have interviewed members of Spiral Tribe, Psychick Warriors ov Gaia, and chronicled the sounds of acid house, Yorkshire techno, Frankfurt trance, and beyond. Their self-published book, Biodegradable Soundsystem, is a collection of essays, features, and interviews mapping the microclimates of old-school dance music culture.

DJing under LNR, they operate in the shadows of the underground, appearing at Amsterdam’s Garage Noord and Belgium’s free party collective V23. Their sets have placed them alongside 90s legends including Spiral Tribe’s 69db, Eat Static, Felix K, μ-Ziq, and Scion, as well as contemporary visionaries Objekt, Woody92, Konduku, and Wata Igarashi.
